According to the  U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY -
Cooling and heating account for over 70% of the energy use in a typical South Florida home, making it the largest energy expense for most homes.  A wide variety of technologies are available for cooling and heating your home, and they achieve a wide range of efficiencies in converting their energy sources into useful heat or cool air for your home.  In addition, many cooling & heating systems have certain supporting equipment, such as a programmable thermostat, which may provide an opportunity for saving energy.
